Mindless Meanderings of a Curly Haired Girl

It's got all the right elements: dark comedy, a great female lead, and a bizarre storyline.

The Filth Fest

I have to start by saying this was perhaps the best weekend I've had in a long time. Obviously if it's worth blogging about, it was worth the lost sleep, stained carpet, the take out, the rumors, and the truths.

I knew it was coming... when Paul had told me his friends were coming to town... I knew it was coming - the Filth Fest. Friday evening started with a number of people enjoying Shelly's home made traditional Hawaiian dinner. Everyone seemed to enjoy it - it was nice to have people in our apartment again. Even though it was crowded and loud and hot... it was fun to chat with Dan and Al, catch up with Paula and rub shoulders with the others at the dinner.

Paul's boys rolled into town and we headed to The Harp. Dave and I laughed ourselves silly at the parking situation and I noted that perhaps we should take the Forge Village Bridge detour. The drinking began as soon as we arrived and the dancing lasted until the bar closed (well so did the drinking). The after party showed up at 729 about 8 deep or so - a good number. Dave bid me adieu at around 5:30 am and I think I finally went to bed around 6:00 am or so. The boys woke up at 10 am to make a McDonalds run. No shoes, no shirts... the 60 degree weather treated them nicely. A gallon of OJ got spilled on the carpet and the smell of greasy breakfast sandwiches wafted through the apartment. I pulled the blankets over my head and tried to go back to sleep. The failed attempt led me to the kitchen and to my breakfast. Hung over and defeated from alcohol, the boys couched and watched football for the majority of the day. Vinny drove me over to pick up my new glasses (which I am in love with). We stopped at Star Market to pick up some vitamin water for paul who had handed me a $20 dollar bill and said "get a lot" and when I inquired "like a whole case" he said "yes." The kid at the cash register looked sideways at me and Vinny as we put 25 or so vitamin waters on the conveyor belt.

Around 7:30 or so, I headed off to Sunny's to watch the first half of the Pat's game. The boys cleaned up and headed to Gypsy bar where we were to meet them later. At half time, Sunny, Don, and I headed to Elephant and Castle to meet up with my friends, and visit Dana and our other buddies who work over there. Once the game finished up Shelly, Paula, and I decided to head to Gypsy bar. Shelly ditched Jeff and Dan went home early - so we hailed a cab in the pouring freezing rain and made our way to Boylston. It was a very cold wait in the line and we were bone cold by the time we got in the bar. More drinks got poured more dancing ensued and we closed the bar and headed back home. Getting a cab was a chore and a half. After the two Kevins were unsuccessful I looked at Shelly (the only remaining female) and said 'i think it's on us' We get in the middle of Boylston and get a cab nearly right away. We grab two of the boys and zoom away. Our cabbie is extremely friendly and nice... we get home and change our clothes and warm up the left over pizza from earlier.

The boys place bets on whether they'll make their 9:50 am flight... as it is now nearly 3:00 am. I go to bed and tell them I'll surely wake up when they head out - they assure me that they will be like "stealth" and I won't hear anything. Right. I get up and say goodbye to the two kevins and go back to bed. Paul decides it's a good idea to go back to NYC with Vinny for the night and I bid the two of them farewell and get ready for my date.

The date could not have been more awkward. A nice guy on the phone and via email - and also nice in person, but more awkward than '06 ;) The Indian food was delicious - but he hardly ate any... he just sort of kept blinking and looking at me - anyway, needless to say, the mutual feeling of distaste was apparent when the farewell was a quick hug and a 'take care of yourself' - shelly thought i should have given him the fist-pound. I nearly died when she told me that. So funny shelly!

Monday I got on the train home and had lunch with mom and dad in nashua, then did some shopping and had some more QT with mom. The 2:07 am text from Paul that said "you don't even know" made me wonder if he'd ever come back to Boston... but he was sprawled out on the couch when I arrived at 729.

On a 1-10 scale... I'd give this weekend a 10 - even though the date was awful, it was one of the funniest experiences of my life. so yeah, overall - a bonafide 10~!
